Dartmouth Academy’s GCSE Dance students got the chance to meet their heroes after a special show at the Princess theatre Torquay on June 18.

The 13 students, accompanied by teacher Steff Morby, attended the performance of “Against Time” at the theatre as part of their course. The show is a collaboration between the Ballet and the “Flawless” street dance crew.

The dance GCSE which has been started this year, is the perfect example of Dartmouth Academy’s drive to give pupils and students real-life experiences of the subjects they are studying – giving them inspiration and ideas to take back into class.

The performance was described by the students as a “showcase of all that is good about dance”. The students were so impressed by the breath-taking production they jumped at the chance to meet the dancers afterwards.

“We feel so lucky to have been to watch the show,” said student Kelly Tucker. “We were dancing in the aisles, and it left us all truly inspired. This experience has opened up a wealth of ideas for the group and has left us wanting to experiment further and  go deeper into the ways to make our dances more exciting and pleasing to the eye.”

“It’s really important for me as a teacher to ensure the students get to see and experience as much live performance as possible,” said dance teacher Miss Morby. “We knew this would be a brilliant show and the students were all so impressed, excited and inspired by the performance. It has shown them how powerful dance can be, and gives them more ideas for their own dance compositions.”
